Malaysia's Titan Chemical Corp Bhd is poised to join the ranks of the largest producers of polyethylene in South-East Asia with the acqusition of the entire equity interest in Indonesia's largest polyethylene producer, PT Petrokimia Nusantara Interindo, at a cost estimated between US$23 mln -US$50 mln. The Indonesian plant will add to Titan's capacity by 450,000 tpa of HDPE and LDPE, bringing the company closer to its stated corporate vision of becoming the leading olefins and polyolefins in South-East Asia within the next five years.
Titan was started in Malaysia as a joint venture between the Chao group and Permodalan Nasional Bhd. Titan's Malaysian facilities include plants in Johor with capacities of about 530,000 tpa LDPE, LLDPE and HDPE. The company is the largest integrated producer of olefins and polyolefins in Malaysia, and the second largest polyolefins maker in South-East Asia.
