Homo-PP imports into Turkey for the first seven months of this year reveal that the list of the top supplying countries has changed considerably compared to past years as per ChemOrbis. At the same time, overall imports posted an increase of 15% in January-July when compared to the same period of last year.
Saudi Arabia maintains its place at the top of the list as the main PP supplier to Turkey. July imports from Saudi Arabia indicated an increase of 17% year over year and 10% month over month. This country continues to hold almost 40% of the overall market share, overtaking its nearest competitor with a market share 4 times larger than Iran in the first seven months of 2014. Second place on the list was replaced by Iran, which was not even listed in the top 3 supplying countries in previous years. The nearby Iranian origin became the second largest supplier to Turkey of PP in January-July. Imports from this country jumped considerably and even surpassed the overall imports of this origin during the whole of last year.
India became the third largest supplier to Turkey, according to the Import Statistics. The overall imports from this country fell last year, although for this year, they appear to have almost caught up to the imports made during the full year of 2013. India was followed by Egypt as the fourth largest supplier to Turkey. The overall imports made from Egypt in the first seven months were almost flat from the same period of last year, although they were considerably reduced in July owing to the production shutdown at the producer. South Korea became the fourth largest homo PP supplier in January-July, tracking Egypt very closely. The reduced customs duties for this origin on homo PP supported the large spike in the import figures while further reductions on the customs tariff as of the beginning of next year is likely to help this origin gain further market share in 2015.
According to ChemOrbis, Turkey’s traditional homo PP supplier, Greece, lost a sizeable market share to the new supply sources as it was listed in sixth place among the top PP suppliers while Israel fell well below Greece in the overall imports made from January to July.
