Ube Group (Thailand), Southeast Asia's solo producer of caprolactam and the only engineering nylon maker that services Thailand's automobile industry, plans to invest another 100 million baht in its research and development center, due to complete in three years. This R&D center-UBE Technical Center (Asia), was established in 2004 at an investment of 100 million baht.
Ube Technical Center (Asia) plans to conduct a study of new high-grade engineering nylon and synthesised rubber products, which will be used in the automobile industry. The additional investment will enhance operations to further improve its product margins. The company plans to focus on specialty petrochemicals in an effort to avoid the tougher competition on cheaper products in the future. The R&D facilities would also help the company strengthen its ability to offer technical services and solutions locally.
The Board of Investment has given Ube Technical Center (Asia) a tax holiday for the first 8 years of operation and a 50% tax discount for the following five years.
The National Science and Technology Development Agency has granted additional assistance to the company.
