World's largest round roof constructed of Polycarbonate sheets

29-Apr-06
The roof of Shanghai South Railway Station, constructed of transparent Lexan polycarbonate plastics sheet from GE, is the largest round roof of its kind in the world. Lexan Thermoclear* multiwall sheet used to glaze the 8,700 sq mt roof of the station's boarding platform besides providing critical properties like extra stiffness, weatherability, clarity, impact resistance, also provides stunning design elements in the entire railway complex, allowing light to illuminate the station interior and boarding platform. Besides the station, Chongqing Stadium in China also uses a completely new grade of Lexan sheet for its roof glazing. Globally, Lexan sheet is a preffered architectural material for window glazing, ceilings, surrounds, and related building and construction applications. Its excellent UV stability, impact strength, and high heat resistance contribute to its success as an outstanding building and construction material.
