Regular annual growth rates of 20-30% for polyethersulphone (PES), has caused BASF to consider building a new feedstock plant for the polymer Ultrason at Ludwigshafen, due on line in mid-2008. The new DHDPS (dihydroxy diphenyl sulphone) plant will have a capacity of 6,000 tpa and use BASF's own technology. BASF also plans to double capacity for PES from its current 6,000 tpa to 12,000 tpa.
All output from the new plant for DHDPS (dihydroxy diphenyl sulphone) feedstock, which is currently being outsourced, will be used for Ultrason manufacture.
