Daikin America Inc. is to invest US$25 million in fluoropolymer expansion at its Decatur plant. The expansion of ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer (ETFE) and ethylene-perfluoro ethylene propylene terpolymer (EFEP) is estimated to be complete by early 2007. The expansion will double the plant's production of ETFE and quadruple its production of EFEP. The decision to expand is consistent with Daikin's global supply strategy to position production in the United States- with strong consumption and growth rates.
ETFE is used as a wire and cable coating, especially as insulation for aircraft, military and oil-drilling applications. EFEP, is a recently developed clear bonding material used in automobile fuel systems and oil transport equipment. It is also used as a protective film for solar panels and semiconductor handling equipment.
