Egypt and Singapore mull petrochem joint venture

17-Nov-06
Egypt and Singapore are in strengthening their bond with talks for a US$2.3 billion petrochemical plant at the Suez Gulf. Economic ties were recently enhanced when Egypt agreed to begin talks with Singapore on a Comprehensive Economic Co-operation Agreement (CECA). CECA would cover areas of trade in goods and services, investments, and give companies open access to government projects in both countries. Egypt is the most populated Middle Eastern country with over 70 million people and has the added advantage of access to markets in Europe and Africa due to several trade agreements.
