The Swiss company, Ems is likely to buy out its partner, Showa Denko, taking control of its Japan based nylon manufacturing business. EC-Showa Denko, jointly owned by Showa and Ems in a 30:70 ratio is to be renamed Ems-Chemie (Japan). The joint venture that was established in the year 2000 will dissolve at the end of this month.
Ems that produces a number of nylons including nylon 6, nylon 66, nylon 12 and polyphenyamide (PPA) will continue to produce specialty nylons, while Showa Denko will concentrate on other business areas that are likely to include polypropylene and aluminum.
It is also speculated that Ems-Chemie (Japan) will move its technical development centre from Kawasaki to Tokyo after the joint venture will cease to exist.
