Sabic's 350,000 tpa PP plant has been shut down since 9 October 2006 due to an unspecified technical problem in the polymerisation facilities at Gelsenkirchen, Germany. This will keep the plant offline for at least two weeks, forcing Sabic Europe to declare "force majeure" to customers for PP homopolymer throughout Europe.
