GAIL to set up US$1.5 billion petrochemical complex in Kerala

17-Feb-05
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced the setting up of Kerala Gas Cracker Complex. Kerala Gas Cracker Complex will be a Rs.70 billion (US$1.5 billion) petrochemical complex of gas infrastructure major GAIL (India) Ltd in Kerala, which upon completion will be the biggest central public sector unit in Kerala. The major beneficiary of the new petrochemical complex would be the NTPC plant at Kayamkulam, the foundation stone of which was laid by the Prime Minister recently, as it would use liquefied natural gas (LNG) for power. Replacing naphtha with LNG as fuel for the plant would bring down the production cost of one unit of power from Rs.4.50 to Rs.2.50.
