GE Plastics (polycarbonate leader in China for the past 25 years) and PetroChina are to cooperate in a JV for a phosgene-free, melt technology-based polycarbonate joint venture in China.. This joint venture, combined with GE's existing and future Chinese compounding facilities, gives the company a greater ability to serve China's fast-growing market. Feedstock for the project is to be supplied by PetroChina , whose strengths are exploration, production, refining, and marketing of the products and natural gas businesses.
Currently, GE Plastics manufactures Lexan polycarbonate at Indiana, Alabama, The Netherlands, Spain and Chiba, Japan. GE has 15 plants worldwide for compounds of Lexan including facilities in China.
