Glass fibre biomaterial unveiled for medical device implant applications

US-based developer of high performance materials, AGY has announced launch of a glass fibre biomaterial reinforcement targeting the medical device implant market. The newly released HPB™ glass fibre is suitable for long-term implant applications of over 30 days, and is compatible with wide range of thermoplastic polymers including polyetheretherketone (PEEK), polyetherimide (PEI) and polyphenylene sulfide (PPS). The company claims that HPB glass fibres - made using company's proprietary glass processing technology - have 40% higher tensile strength and 20% higher tensile modulus compared to ordinary E-glass fibres.
