The definition of plastic carry bags has been amended by the Ministry of Environment and Forests as per Notification No: 249 dated: 04-02-2011. The definition covered all the flexible plastic packaging in the definition of carry bags. The new definition is as follows : “Carry bags means carry bags made from plastic material , used for the purpose of carrying or dispensing commodities but do not include bags that constitute or form integral part of packaging in which goods are packed prior to use.”
The amendment offers following advantages
1. Industrial and primary packaging is excluded from the category of carry bags.
2. Only carry bags need to above 40 microns, other packaging material is exempted.
3. Printing will be compulsory only on carry bags.
