IPF suggests recycling of plastics over complete ban on plastics

09-Jan-06
The West Bengal government has plans to implement a ban on plastics phase by phase, starting from the use and manufacture of plastics in many sectors. However, plastics need not be banned as they can be recycled into crude oil. The president of the Indian Plastics Federation, KM Tibrewala, and two other representatives met the chief secretary to put forward a plan for ways to recycle used plastic or polythene bags into crude oil. In the event of a ban on plastics, not only the 60 manufacturers of plastics in the state but also the dream project of the government, Haldia Petrochemicals, is bound to suffer.
