Methanol to polyolefins process by Total

14-Oct-08
French oil and petrochemicals group Total has inaugurated a €45 mln demonstration plant to produce olefins and polyolefins from methanol at Feluy, Belgium. The facility will assess the feasibility of two integrated processes using methanol as a feedstock. The UOP/Hydro methanol-to-olefins (MTO) process converts the methanol into ethylene, propylene and heavier olefins. The heavy olefins are converted into propylene using the UOP/Total Petrochemicals olefin cracking process (OCP). All the olefins are then converted into polyolefins at the site´s existing pilot polymerisation unit.
