Automotive production is on the rise globally. As auto manufacturers begin to accelerate global business development, the number of vehicles produced in Japan alone is estimated to grow almost 10% annually by 2007. To meet the growing demand for Automotive Polypropylene (PP), Mitsui Chemicals and Prime Polymer Co., Ltd. have planned capacity expansion and to ensure quick response to growing demand for polypropylene-based automotive materials in the North American and Asian regions. Total annual polypropylene production capacity in North America, Thailand and China will increase by 27%, for a combined annual total of 63,000 tons. This move is being taken to ensure MCI can respond to growing demand for polypropylene-based automotive materials in the North American and Asian regions.
The Mitsui Chemicals Group views the polypropylene-based automotive materials business, chiefly overseen by subsidiary Prime Polymer, as one of the core businesses of its Petrochemicals Business Group.
