Capacity expansion being planned by South Korea's ethylene makers will result in an increase in naphtha use is expected by 5.4% this year.
Asia's second-largest ethylene maker, Yeochun Naphtha Cracking Centre (YNCC), will increase capacity by 350,000 tons and Lotte Daesan Petrochemical Corp. is also expected to add 350,000 tons to its current capacity. Samsung Total Petrochemicals Co. and LG Chem Ltd. will expand capacity by 200,000 tons each.
The rise in naphtha use will increase South Korea's domestic demand for petroleum products, which is expected to grow by 1.4% to 775 million barrels even though less gasoline, diesel and kerosene are expected to be used in 2007.
