A 6.4 kms (3.9 miles) pipeline transporting hydrogen and naphtha between petrochemical companies in the Daesan Industrial Complex has been completed. The pipeline will offer the advantage of supplying materials faster and cheaper, increasing price competitiveness. The pipeline starts from Samsung Total Petrochemicals Co., passes through Lotte Daesan Petrochemical Corp., LG Daesan Petrochemical Ltd. and ends at Hyundai Oil Refinery Co. Hyundai Oil, Samsung Total and SEETEC invested a total of 5.2 billion won (US$5 million) in the pipe's construction.
Samsung Total and Hyundai Oil will be the two biggest beneficiaries among the companies within the complex as though within the same industrial zone, previously the two had to exchange hydrogen and naphtha by ship. With the new pipeline, Hyundai Oil will receive 17,000 tpa of hydrogen from Samsung Total, commencing in April 2006. In turn, Hyundai Oil will provide Samsung Total with a stable supply of naphtha.
SEETEC has a 50% stake in both Lotte Daesan Petrochemical and LG Daesan Petrochemical, and will receive a fee on the use of the pipe from the two subsidiaries.
