Norner, Hosokawa Alpine develop world leading innovative flexible packaging

11-May-09
Norner Innovation AS (Norway) has entered into an agreement with Hosokawa Alpine AG (Germany) to install a MDO line (Mono Directional Orientation) for development of plastic films for flexible packaging and industrial applications at its Strathelle-based development center in Norway. The line will be used in both funded R&D projects and outsourced packaging development projects with the industry. In a MDO line, the plastic film will be heated and stretched for improving its strength, stiffness, impact and aesthetic properties like haze and gloss. Further, this will develop films for flexible packaging industry with a different balance or new functional properties including those with up to 50% thinner for more sustainable packaging with material savings. The technology from Hosokawa Alpine is especially adopted for extruded blown film which globally is by far the most used technology for film production. Norner has one of Europe's most comprehensive independent test and development centres for plastic films and flexible packaging. The company carries out a wide range of commissioned development and technology services for the film and plastics value chain. This includes development of new film recipes, trials on industrial scale extruders, various tests and analysis of performance and troubleshooting.
