Nova's Corunna ethylene flexi-cracker has resumed production on Jan. 24 and its polyethylene plant in Sarnia, Ont., is returning to normal. The ethylene plant has returned to normal operations after a shutdown that will eat away profits by up to US$25 million in Q1-2006.
Nova had to shut down the Corunna plant in December, less than a week after restarting the plant following a costly revamp. The Sarnia plant that it supplies was also shut down.
In November, Nova had declared "force majeure" and halted shipments of ethylene, propylene and other products from the Corunna plant and polyethylene from its Sarnia operations. The force majeure on hydrogen was lifted Monday. The force majeure declarations on ethylene, polyethylene, propylene, and other co-products will be lifted during February as inventories are built up.
