US chemical major ExxonMobil and Sinopec (China Petroleum and Chemical Corp) are in a few rounds of preliminary talks about jointly developing an ethylene project in China's southern Guangdong province.
Sinopec's Guangzhou complex currently operates a refining and petrochemical complex in the district of Guangzhou, the provincial capital of Guangdong, centering around a refinery with 7.7 million mta (154,000 bpd) of crude processing capacity and a naphtha cracker with 200,000 mta of ethylene.
The blueprint of Sinopec Guangzhou Co (SGC) and its parent Sinopec is to ultimately lift SGC's refining capacity to 18-mil mta and ethylene output capacity to 800,000mta. SGC is currently undergoing a refining capacity expansion program to increase crude processing capacity to 10 million mta by latest Q1 of 2006.
