Russian PP plant to use Unipol process

Russia's Stavrolen will also use Dow's proprietary Unipol Unippac Advanced Process Control package. Dow Chemical Co. subsidiary Union Carbide and the Russian company Lukoil-Neftekhim have announced a license agreement under which Lukoil subsidiary Stavrolen will use Unipol PP process technology for a new polypropylene plant at Budennovsk, Russia. Construction of the 120,000 tpa PP plant is scheduled for completion in 2006. Total investment for the expansion is estimated to cross US$70 million. Meanwhile, construction has commenced on a 230,000 tpa polyethylene plant in the Nizhnekamsk complex in the Tatarstand Republic of the Russian Federation. Polymer producer Nizhnekamskneftekim expects the facility, which licenses Basell's Spherilene process, to start operations in 2007.
