Scratch resistant PC for electronics

08-Aug-06
The keypads, housings are the parts of mobile phones, computers and digital cameras that tend to get worn out due to constant handling. Polycarbonate (PC) is the preffered material for these components, but has thus far necessitated hard-coating the resin to prevent abrasion and maintain a good surface appearance. This secondary hard coating has translated into additional cost and additional processing time. To help solve this challenge, GE Plastics has developed a new family of Lexan* PC resins featuring outstanding scratch resistance, ideal for transparent applications such as soft keys, infrared lenses, bezels, and screens. Lexan PC and PC-based resins offer impact resistance, outstanding dimensional stability and crystal clarity, with high mechanical, optical, electrical and thermal properties.
