World's leading chemical company, BASF will build its third Asian production and development plant for its Cellasto® polyurethane-based automotive components at Shanghai by 2010. The new Cellasto manufacturing site will be integrated with the company's already existing site in Shanghai and will be capable of producing auto components for more 5 mln vehicle per annum. The company already has two manufacturing facilities at Nansha, China, and Shinshiro, Japan. The new plant will considerably expand BASF's position in Asia and enable them to create a base for close-to-the-customer supplies for the growing automotive market in China. Shanghai being a core of Chinese automotive industry along the other two plants in Asia will supply Cellasto®-based auto components to the entire Asia Pacific area.
Under the brand name Cellasto, BASF develops, manufactures and distributes components made of cellular polyurethane elastomers for enhanced driving comfort. Cellasto dampens vibrations and reduces noise level more effectively than conventional spring aids, providing added safety as well as superior comfort.
