Shanghai Secco Petrochemical Co. Ltd., a joint-venture between BP Plc. and Sinopec Corp., has shut its 900,000 tpa cracker in Shanghai after technical problems on Thursday. This is reported as a minor shutdown and expected normal operation to resume in a day or two. This is the plants’ second glitch in four months, but is expected to have very little impact on production or sales. The cracker, one of the largest in China which started commercial production 11 months ago, briefly switched off in February due to some unspecified equipment problem.
