Temporary production shutdown at Braskem's PET plant in Brazil

11-Jun-07
Braskem plans a temporary shut down of its polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plant facility at Camacari, Brazil. This is accompanied by a complete shutdown of its 80,000 tpa dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) production facility as it lacks the size and technology to cope with the global competition. Braskem has entered into a supply agreement with Mossi and Ghisolfis affiliate in Brazil to avert an interruption of PET resin supply to its clients. Braskem plans to reopen its 78,000 tpa PET facility to provide cost effective production for the polyester business in Brazil.
