Faced with water shortage, the Thai petrochem industry seems poised for 40% production cut
The Thai government after being warned about this trying situation, had promised immediate relief affected operations but factories in industrial areas on the eastern seaboard, including petrochemical plants, oil refineries and power plants seem to face no relief. Petrochem makers at the Map Ta Phut Estate in Rayong are also considering a plan to reduce their petrochemical production by about 40% as the water supply is likely to fall to a critical level within the next two weeks.
Petrochem prices are not showing much movement this week- HDPE and PP have remained flat, LLDPE prices are down by US$5. Only PVC prices have shown an upward movement of about US$15-20.
Will this potential cut in Thai petrochem supplies affect Asian markets?
