Samsung Total Petrochemicals Company has selected Basell's Spherizone technology for a new 250,000 tpa polypropylene(PP) plant in Daesan, Korea. This is the first Spherizone license in Asia and the fifth worldwide, since Basell commenced licensing the technology in 2003. The Spherizone process is Basell's newest polypropylene technology designed around the company's patented multi-zone circulating reactor system which can produce bi-modal products in a single reactor.
Samsung’s Daesan investment also includes an expansion of the 650,000tpa cracker as well as technology to lift its propylene/ethylene ratio plus added styrene monomer capacity. The Daesan plant’s current polyolefin capacity stands at some 670,000tpa. Samsung Total Petrochemicals has planned the start up for the end of 2007.
