BASF is celebrating the 75th anniversary of polystyrene, which was manufactured on an industrial scale for the first time and patented by BASF researchers in 1930.
As part of its anniversary celebrations, the polystyrene experts have devised an Internet game that not only provides information about the use of polystyrene in our daily lives but also serves a good cause: the total points scored in the game determine the amount that BASF will donate to SOS Children's Villages.
The keyboard cursor of a computer moves a person wearing a "75 PS" sweatshirt through the supermarket aisles as he fills his shopping cart with all kinds of products. The player is only awarded points for articles that are made of polystyrene; the points scored vary depending on how familiar a given polystyrene application is. For every 100 points, BASF will transfer 5 euros into an account of SOS Children's Villages.
