Celanese sues Saudi Group

17-Nov-06
Charging violation of trade secrets, Celanese Corp. has sued Saudi International Petrochemical Co. International Acetyls Co. and International Vinyl Acetate Co. Celanese seeks to block the Saudi Group from constructing vinyl acetate monomer and acetic acid plants in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia. Celanese alleges the companies hired its former employees and suppliers "with intimate knowledge of Celanese's trade secrets." Celanese's Petition alleges that the defendants engaged in a calculated campaign to misappropriate and commercialize Celanese's confidential information. The Petition asserts that defendants, acting directly and through agents, among other acts, aggressively recruited and hired former or current Celanese employees, identified and retained engineering and construction firms that had extensive experience working on Celanese's acetyl projects, and vendors and other suppliers with intimate knowledge of Celanese's trade secrets.
