Austria-based Chemson Polymer - Additive AG, one of the world's leading producers for PVC stabilizers, and Mumbai-based manufacturer of PVC stabilizers, A.L.A. Chemicals, have entered into an agreement wherein the latter will produce in India lead free PVC stabilizers for PVC Cables, Pipes etc, based on Chemson's technological know-how. This agreement will allow A.L.A. to produce lead free stabilizers based on Calcium and Zinc for various applications like PVC cables, pipes, profiles etc. The stabilizers will be sold under the Chemson 'Naftosafe' brand and will be made at A.L.A.'s plant near Mumbai and marketed by A.L.A.
The European PVC stabilizer producers are actively working to ensure that PVC is a sustainable material. In the Voluntary Commitment they are committed to phase out use of cadmium as a stabilizer, carry out risk assessments on lead-based stabilizers, and progressively to diminish their consumption to final phase out in 2015 (Vinyl 2010).
