The European Commission has announced plans to reimpose definitive antidumping duties on imports into the European Union (EU) of certain grades of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand and Taiwan. Duties will be reimposed on PET from these countries, with a viscosity of 78ml/g or higher.
The original duties were imposed in 2000 and are set to lapse. Claiming that the expiry of the measures could result in a continuation or recurrence of dumping and injury to the EU industry, the Polyethylene Terephthalate Committee of Plastics Europe has called for their reimposition.
The proposed duties would be:
For India : €181.70/ton, except Pearl Engineering Polymers Ltd (€130.80/ton); SENPET Ltd (200.90/ton); Futura Polyesters Ltd €161.20/ton; South Asian Petrochem Ltd (88.90/ton).
For Indonesia : €187.70/ton, barring PT Indorama Synthetics Tbk (€92.10/ton); PT Polypet Karyapersada (€178.90/ton).
For Malaysia : €160.10/ton, except Hualon Corp (€36/ton).
For South Korea : €148.30/ton, with KP Chemicals Group; Honam Petrochemicals Corp; KP Chemicals Corp; SK Chemicals Group; SK Chemicals Co. Ltd; and Huvis Corp exempt.
For Taiwan : €143.40/ton, barring Far Eastern Textile Ltd (€36.30/ton) and Shinkong Synthetic Fibers Corp. (€67/ton).
For Thai exports :€83.20/ton.
