Explosion and shutdown at Ineos' LDPE unit in Cologne

An explosion and fire have led to the shut down of Ineos' 200,000 tpa LDPE plant at Cologne, Germany. The explosion followed a sudden release of pressure that resulted in emission of ethylene, which ignited. No serious injuries have been reported. Subject to the findings of the investigation, the plant is expected to be off stream for several weeks.
