Guangdong's development plan for petrochemical industry for the period 2006 to 2010 is aimed at making the province a strong petrochemical province in China as well as a center for petrochemical production in Asia. Guangdong will see its petrochemical industry grow at an annual rate of 20% and boost the gross output value to CNY 730 billion by 2010, accounting for some 11% of the province's total. The province also plans to invest up to CNY 180 billion to build and expand five oil refining and five ethylene projects, and to construct five petrochemical bases in the coastal areas over the next five years.
