India's largest engineering and construction major Larsen and Toubro Ltd (L&T) has been awarded a contract for petrochemical project from Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) to undertake major construction services as well as supply of high-end electrical systems for the 29 mln tpa refinery and petrochemical project in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
L&T's electrical and electronics division will supply over 325 high-end switchboards equipped with intelligent relays, conforming to high quality standards and stringent specifications of Bechtel, UK, project consultants for the refinery and petrochemical plant.
L&T first executed a polyester staple fibre plant and partially oriented yarn plant at Patalganga in Maharashtra in 1980 for RIL. Subsequently, the company executed the linear alkyl benzene plant and purified terephthalic acid plant followed by several similar projects on a continuous basis at Reliance's Hazira petrochemical complex. It has been actively involved in the construction of Reliance's Jamnagar refinery, which is the world's largest refinery.
