ONGC's natural gas supply affected by heavy rains

10-Aug-06
Oil and Natural Gas Corp. Ltd. (ONGC) has capped gas wells at the offshore platforms of its Bassein field and the Panna-Mukta and Tapti fields. Water started entering the Hazira Gas Processing Complex through storm water channels, flooding the plant to the level of 4-5 feet, coercing the company to announce a shutdown. 40 million standard cubic metres per day of gas supplies from the Hazira plant have been suspended. Britain's BG Group Plc, Reliance and ONGC jointly own the Panna-Mutka and Tapti fields. GAIL will also be hit by this decision, as the PSU supplies natural gas to its customers, mainly power plants and fertiliser units, with its pipeline from Hazira to northern India.
