Japans Mitsui Chemicals Inc. has reduced estimates for its annual operating profit estimate for the business year ending March by 20 percent, mainly due to higher prices for raw materials such as naphtha. Mitsui has been unable to pass on higher naphtha costs to customers in a timely manner. The company said it now expects to report an operating profit of 56 billion yen (US$479 million) for the year ending March 31, instead of its February projection of 70 billion yen.
