Nova Chemicals Corp.'s Beaver Valley Polystyrene plant in Monaca was idled due to an electrical outage that struck the facility on Tuesday. Technicians at the plant are in the process of determining the cause of the outage.
This shutdown has resulted in closure of the polystyrene production facility as styrene vapors were released into the atmosphere. The plant produces 150 million pounds pa of polystyrene and 285 million pounds pa of expandable polystyrene.
