Toray BASF commences production at PBT plant in Malaysia

In a bid to strengthen its position in the region, Toray BASF PBT, a Japanese-German joint venture, has opened a 60,000 tpa polybutylene terephalate (PBT) plant in Pahang, Malaysia. Set up at a US$40 million (RM146 million) investment, Toray BASF PBT Resin Sdn Bhd (TBPR) is a 50-50 joint venture between BASF Aktiengesellschaft of Germany and Toray Industries Inc of Japan. PBT is a thermoplastic polyester that has high rigidity, superior weathering and heat resistance, and dimensional stability. Additional features include good electrical insulating properties and resistance to chemicals. Typical applications are in electrical components, automotive parts, precision equipment, construction materials and household appliances
