PTT Polyethylene (PTTPE) has commenced construction work on its ethane cracker and polyethylene (PE) manufacturing units at the Map Ta Phut petrochemical complex in Rayong, Thailand. Toyo Thai Corp has been signed up to build the ethylene plant, with a capacity of 1 mln tpa. The supply contract for the unit was awarded to Toyo Engineering.
The ethylene plant, which will employ ABB Lummus Global technology, is slated to be completed by the end of Oct 2009. Output from the unit will be supplied to PTTPE's 300,000 tpa LDPE plant and 400,000 tpa LLDPE units, to be constructed within the Map Ta Phut petrochemical complex.
