Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical has shortlisted technology, basic engineering services and equipment from UOP for its aromatics facility to be built at Shanghai. The new plant will produce 600,000 tpa of paraxylene using UOP's "Parex" process and 280,000 tpa of benzene. Commissioning of the complex is scheduled by the end of 2008.
Demand for paraxylene in China is expected to grow at an annual rate of 14% over the next 10 years.
