Reliance Industries and the Indonesia-based Salim group plan to build special economic zones (SEZs) in the country. The West Bengal government aims to accommodate the plans of both the groups by developing two SEZs.
Reliance would be the preferred promoter for the proposed chemical SEZ, now being called the Petrochemicals, Chemicals, Petroleum Investment Region (PCPIR) and Salim is likely to develop a multi product SEZ.
Another report states that no agreement has been signed with any company for the SEZ's and there could be two or more promoters for the SEZs. No promoters have, however, been named.
