In a bid to counter these high prices, Japanese polymer producers Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corporation and Shin-Etsu Chemical Co. Ltd. have hiked polymer prices in and after May. Asahi Kasei Chemicals has announced a price hike as follows: * PE prices by more than 20 yen/kg, a 12-13% price hike, effective for shipments in the second half of May. * Styrene monomer prices by 20 yen/kg, a 13% hike effective from shipments on May 1. Shin-Etsu Chemical has raised poly vinyl chloride prices by 15 yen/kg (13%) starting from June shipments.
