China's largest futures market seeks regulatory approval for plastic futures

The Dalian Commodity Exchange, China's largest futures market by turnover, is seeking regulatory approval to deal in plastics contracts in an effort to offer hedge tools on plastic farming film -a major agricultural product. Farming film is a crucial production material in modern agriculture, but the rising cost of polyethylene in the past years has affected the interests of farmers, making it necessary to introduce the contacts to hedge risks for farmers, producers and traders. The design of the new contracts for linear low density polyethylene has been completed after research work started in 2004.
